When I press the handshake emoji, I'm now each time prompted to classify me and the other person by our skin colors in this grid of 25 options. I understand the idea was to promote inclusivity and combat racism. I have a strong feeling it has the opposite of the intended effect. I'm each time being reminded that skin tone is something I apparently should consider important and that I'm supposed to classify everyone into racial boxes.
Is it just me who is uncomfortable with this? I feel like the original yellow emoji is neutral and free of racial connotation. If yellow is thought to resemble caucasian too much, I would suggest just use blue and purple instead.
